WARSAW – Washington STEM Academy has announced the official opening of its new community pantry, a year-round resource designed to support students, families and neighbors.
The pantry expands the school’s ongoing efforts to address food insecurity and meet essential needs through initiatives such as the Washington Wardrobe, Boomerang Backpacks, Together We Feed Them All and other building-wide projects focused on student well-being.
This newest addition was made possible through the generosity of community member Nicole Moore, whose passion for meeting basic needs inspired the project. “I think feeding people is one of the most fundamental ways that we can care for and show love to people,” says Nicole. “I love the function of the community pantry because it is available to anyone who needs it 24/7.”
The pantry operates as a shared community responsibility. Families and neighbors are encouraged to support it by taking what they need and giving what they can. Donations such as pop-top canned goods, ready-to-eat items, microwavable meals, toiletries, diapers, wipes, and simple meal ingredients are especially helpful. Visitors are also asked to help keep the pantry clean, organized, and accessible by ensuring the doors are closed when finished.
“I’m so grateful to Nicole for overseeing projects like this and for her work with Boomerang Backpacks at Washington,” says PTO president Dr. Julia Porter. “We have wonderful parents in our PTO who come up with creative ideas to continue serving Washington families and the community and I for one am extremely grateful.”
Washington STEM Academy invites the community to visit the pantry, whether to donate items or pick up resources as needed.
The pantry is located at the front of the school building, just behind the Free Little Library. For more information on Washington STEM Academy or ways to support the pantry, please contact the school office.
