SYRACUSE — Severe storms that tore through northern Kosciusko County on Tuesday night resulted in downed trees and crushed roofs around parts of Lake Wawasee.
The National Weather Service confirmed Wednesday that the destruction was caused by a powerful downburst of straight-line winds rather than a tornado.
The storm hit around 7.30 p.m., slamming Morrison Island on the south part of the lake and surrounding communities.
WNDU reports this marks the second time in roughly three years that straight-line winds have inflicted severe damage on the island.
