World Compassion Network in Warsaw totaled up its numbers for its 2020 WCN Virtual Run for Hunger 5K and will begin distributing checks this week to organizations that need them.

World Compassion Network’s 12th Annual Run for Hunger Virtual 5K took place March 28. Over the years, this event has raised more than $105,000 with more than 7,000 people and businesses participating, according to a news release from WCN.

One hundred percent of the net proceeds go directly into programs that help feed the suffering in the area.

This year, because of COVID-19, the race was made “virtual.” This allowed people all over the United States to participate by walking or running wherever they were located, practicing social distancing and helping the local community. The event had participants as far south as Florida and as far north as Minnesota, all raising funds to show love to those hardest hit economically, the release states.

WCN announced that this year’s event raised over $8,000 in net proceeds. WCN will begin distributing the funds this week to organizations and programs that are on front line of meeting the community’s most urgent needs.

The release states, “Together with our generous sponsors and race participants, we are impacting and encouraging our community. From all of us at World Compassion Network, we say thank you for being a light during a dark time.”
