Weather Service: Two Tornadoes Damaged Area

The National Weather Service has confirmed that two tornadoes touched down Monday evening in our area.

One left damage six miles southwest of Wakarusa. Weather Service team members say the path of damage was about 2 ½ miles long and 100 yards wide. It damaged several cornfields and a farm and its outbuildings with peak winds of 110 mph.

The other tornado touched down less than a mile north of North Webster and stayed on the ground for more than a mile. It brought winds of around 90 mph. The North Webster United Methodist Church was among the buildings that sustained damage.

Both twisters were estimated as EF-1 tornadoes on a scale from 0-5.
