Woman Sentenced After Firing Gun At Officers During Chase

A South Bend woman has been sentenced to five years behind bars after shooting at a man, leading police on a chase and trying to bite the officers. It was back in August when police say 25 year-old Carla Merriweather stole a truck and used a gun inside the truck to shoot at a man she believed was following her in an effort to collect a drug debt. She then led police on a high speed chase and fired multiple rounds at the pursuing officers. At one point, she ran a red light and narrowly missed colliding with another vehicle. The chase ended at Barbie and Main Streets where Merriweather initially refused to exit the truck despite police commands to do so. She was eventually taken into custody, but then began to kick at the windows of the police car and attempted to bite the officers.
