House Speaker Softening Support For Prescriptions On Cold Medicines

House Speaker Brian Bosma is softening his support for a prescription requirement for cold remedies containing pseudoephedrine. Bosma has supported calls to make Sudafed and similar medication prescription-only to prevent meth cooks from getting their hands on it, but lawmakers have introduced three alternative approaches. Minority leader Scott Pelath says something needs to be done, but he doesn’t know what. Pseudoephedrine is a key ingredient in both cold medicines and meth; Indiana has led the nation in meth labs three years in a row.
