WARSAW — A prayer vigil remembering Charlie Kirk, the conservative firebrand who was assassinated a week ago, will happen at 8 tonight in Central Park in Warsaw.
The killing in Utah has led to an outgrowth of vigils across the country, and a Warsaw resident, Joe Jackson, said he had wanted to see if anyone else would do so before launching his own with an announcement on Facebook
He sees tonight’s “Pray For America” vigil as a quiet, non-political, prayer-focused event.
“Whenever you see somebody gathering to honor somebody’s life but also petition the Lord on behalf of a nation, it just encourages people,” Jackson said. “That’s what I’m hoping for, is people feel encouraged and that hope is kind of rekindled.”
Jackson talked about what he liked most about Kirk, who rose to prominence in recent years, worked to attract young voters, and became an important ally to President Trump
“What I admired the most about him was his desire to honor the Lord of his life and his desire to love his wife and kids,” he said.
Jackson is a student pastor at First Church of God in Columbia City. He and his wife have two little girls.
