WARSAW — The Indiana Department of Transportation is planning temporary traffic restrictions on U.S. 20 on Wednesday evening in Elkhart County as crews work to remove an overhead sign structure.
Officials say the work will take place on eastbound U.S. 20 near the interchange with State Road 19 and will require both lane restrictions and rolling slowdowns.
According to INDOT, crews will begin alternating lane restrictions at about 5 p.m. Wednesday.
The restrictions will affect all lanes of eastbound U.S. 20 and the passing lane of westbound U.S. 20.
From approximately 8 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., crews will conduct two rolling slowdowns in the eastbound lanes to complete the removal of the overhead structure.
Each slowdown is expected to last about 10 minutes, with at least a 20-minute break between each operation, according to INDOT.
Temporary directional signage will remain in place until a replacement overhead structure can be installed.
Officials also noted that all work is weather-dependent and schedules may change if conditions require adjustments.
