WARSAW — Local history — and even some locally-derived music — came alive Saturday at Oakwood Cemetery in Warsaw with well over 100 people participating in the tours.
Saturday’s Heritage Walk built upon a similar tour two years ago, with some enhancements this year — personal sound systems and more shade provided for the re-enactors.
Eleven historical figures were featured, and most of them were military veterans.
Some of the highlights included Blanche and Virgil Brock, hymn composers whose music was highlighted, thanks to reenactors Glenn Hall and LeAnn Scacco.
Other historical figures portrayed included Hobart Creighton, the founder of Creighton Brothers Eggs, John Peterson, who was the first soldier from Kosciusko County who died in World War 1 and is the namesake of the American Legion Post in Warsaw; George Lenke, a WWII hero who later became president of Da-Lite Screen, and Ralph Lichtenwalter, who served in three wars and went on to several significant roles in Kosciusko ounty
Cemetery Seton Hal Heagy said he was thankful for the extensive work and support from the Kosciusko County Historical Society and others for their research and coordination of the event.
