WARSAW — The city of Warsaw is seeking to develop 11 acres of commercial property on State Road 15 North near Kohl’s.
The city’s redevelopment commission on Monday voted to use $1.8 million to acquire the land from a company that says it’s exiting the commercial development business.
The city’s goal is to attract some major retailers that would complement the existing collection of stores.
Jeremy Skinner, the director of community and economic development for the city of Warsaw, said they’re talking with more than one entity already.
“Ideally, we want it to be something that will match the Kohl’s and the TJ Maxx,” Skinner said.
The property had been under a two-year option for a veterans clinic, but that option has expired.
Money to purchase the property is coming out of a tax increment finance (TIF) fund.
The city of Warsaw also helped line up an agreement about a year ago with Hobby Lobby, which is currently in the early stages of constructing a new store at the Marketplace of Warsaw.
