SOUTH BEND — Firefighters worked to put out a fire at a construction site in downtown South Bend early Tuesday morning.
The fire started shortly after midnight at the site of the new Stadium Flats Apartments near Four Winds Field, the home of the South Bend Cubs.
Several callers reported the building was on fire and that a crane was also burning.
Firefighters prevented the flames from spreading to the nearby Diamond View Apartments and the South Bend Cubs Performance Center.
Residents of the Diamond View Apartments were evacuated.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
No injuries were reported.
