Accident Update: 2 Injured In U.S. 30 Collision

Two people were injured in an accident on U.S. 30 in Warsaw shortly after midnight Sunday.

According to the Warsaw Police Department accident report, Chloe E. Smith, 17, East Pierceton Road, Warsaw, said she was driving a 2007 Nissan Sentra on Silveus Crossing. She said she had fallen asleep when she reached the intersection of U.S. 30 and Silveus Crossing. The traffic light for traffic going north and south was red. Smith did not stop at the red light and continued to drive south.

Brian L. Pilot, 62, Taylor Falls, Minn., driving a semi-truck, continued to drive east and had the green traffic light. Pilot’s truck hit Smith’s vehicle at the intersection.

Pilot said he was driving east on U.S. 30 going toward the traffic light. He said the traffic light at the intersection was green for the east and west traffic. Pilot said he continued going east but, once he reached the intersection, his truck hit Smith’s vehicle that was going south.

Smith had a  head contusion; a passenger in Smith’s vehicle, Angel E. Gomez, 20, Anchorage Road, Warsaw, had minor bleeding to the head. Both were checked at the scene by EMS but declined further medical attention, according to the WPD report.

Damage was estimated at $25,000 to $50,000.
