A 20-year-old man accused of raping a woman after robbing a South Bend gas station on New Year’s Day has surrendered to police. Herbert Lee Brown III faces three counts of rape, two counts of robbery and one count of criminal confinement. And he's no stranger to trouble. Brown was already on probation for an earlier conviction. Surveillance footage from the 7-Eleven on South Miami Street in South Bend shows Brown waving a gun at clerks and taking money from the cash register. He then left the store and hijacked a minivan with a woman in the passenger seat – the driver was not in the car. She said after Brown took command of the vehicle and drove away, he assaulted her at gunpoint.
