Accused Warsaw child killer asks for new attorney

A man accused of killing a 2-year-old girl is requesting a new attorney.

Christopher Grimmett, 30, filed the motion today in Kosciusko Circuit Court.

Grimmett was assigned local attorney Jay Rigdon as a public defender.

“My counsel is not fighting for my fighting for my case. I believe he is not properly defending my rights,” Grimmett said in the motion.

Judge Michael Reed set a hearing on the motion for 3 p.m. June 5.

Police say Grimmett admitted to killing Adalin Stamper and burying her in the backyard of his brother’s house in Warsaw Nov. 11.

Rigdon declined to comment on the motion.
