Advocates Looking For Funds For Medicaid Program

Advocates and lobbyists are looking for additional funds for Indiana's Medicaid program. The groups are looking to federal officials to give fast approval to Indiana's request for a Medicaid expansion. Leaders from the Indiana Hospital Association, the Indiana State Medical Association and other groups said at the Statehouse Thursday that the expansion is critical to providing care for the state's working poor. Governor Pence has proposed using the state's Healthy Indiana Plan as a basis for expanding Medicaid coverage. The proposal would allow for modified health savings account plans for low-income residents and allow them to buy improved coverage. Approval would mean the federal government would pick up the vast majority of the multi-billion-dollar expansion.
