Atwood Woman Faces Charges In Child Battery Case

An Atwood woman faces charges after police allege she hit her children while drunk.
Jacquelynn Marie Miller. 36, of 111 E. Main St., faces two felony charges of battery on a child and two misdemeanor charges of domestic battery. Miller was arrested Sunday and formal charges were filed Tuesday.
A Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department deputy was called to the residence after three children ran to a neighbor’s house asking for help. The neighbor called the children’s grandmother, who came over and put the kids in a van to protect them.
A 13-year-old boy told police Miller was drunk, yelling and hitting his 11-year-old sister, when he stepped in to try protect his sister.
Miller allegedly threw the boy on the bed and started scratching, clawing and slapping him. The boy had scatches all over his face and neck and had been bleeding, according to court records.
Police allege Miller turned back on the sister, slapping her in the face at least 10 times. The children were able to escape and request help.
The boy told police Miller had struck them before but their older sister usually stops Miller, but the older sister was not  home at the time.
Miller’s blood alcohol content was .21, according to police.
As of this morning, Miller was in the Kosciusko County Jail on a $6,000 bond.
