Boy, 10, drowns at city pool in Nappanee

NAPPANEE — An investigation is underway after a 10-year-old boy drowned at Nappanee Public Pool on Tuesday, the Fourth of July.

The family told police Kymani Emmanuel Collier went under the water around 4:45 p.m. at the pool. Lifeguards retrieved him and performed CPR.

Family members say Kymani had a faint heartbeat during chest compressions and was eventually taken off life support.

The Elkhart County Homicide Unit is handling the investigation.

Phil Jenkins, the mayor of Nappanee, issued a statement saying their hearts go out to the family and friends affected by this incident. We are deeply saddened by this unfortunate event and are fully committed to working with everyone affected by this tragedy.”
