Brian Mayo named new fire chief for Warsaw-Wayne Fire Territory

WARSAW — Warsaw Mayor Joe Thallemer on Wednesday announced the appointment of Brian Mayo as the Warsaw-Wayne Fire Territory’s new fire chief.

This selection follows the February 2023 resignation of Garrett Holderman.

The city conducted an extensive national search that resulted in over 30 well-qualified and exemplary applicants.

Mayo currently serves as Deputy Fire Chief for the Hardeeville, South Carolina Fire Department and has more than 32 years of experience in fire service.

He began his fire career in Indiana, serving the Westfield and Carmel Fire Departments, before moving to South Bend where he was an Assistant Chief at the Penn Township Fire Department.

He has held progressive levels of leadership up to and including Fire Chief.

Mayo has a master’s degree in Christian Leadership, a bachelor’s degree in Business Management, and associate degrees in Fire Science.

He is also a graduate of the Executive Fire Officer Program at the National Fire Academy. He actively participates in numerous local and regional fire organizations, currently serving as a member of the Strategic Planning Committee of the South Carolina Firefighters Association.

Mayo is also a Rretired captain of the Indiana Army National Guard where he served as the Brigade Medical Logistics Officer for the 38th Sustainment Brigade. He was deployed to the Middle East in 2017.

Mayo will begin his employment on April 2 where he will command a staff of 44 firefighters and administrative personnel.
