WARSAW — Warsaw City Council joined numerous other cities signaling their support for a resolution supporting legislation for a statewide driving card program for undocumented residents in Indiana.

The legislation is aimed at improving driver safety while also allowing undocumented immigrants who can’t provide documentation for a driver’s license at the BMV a way to drive legally.

Council passed the resolution 6-0. Councilman Josh Finch was absent.

Earlier this month, more than 100 people attended a city council meeting and urged the council to support the resolution.

At the same time, it appears the bill authored by State Sen. Blake Doriot has stalled.

Mayor Joe Thallemer, who was one of 50 mayors supporting the legislation, told council Tuesday night that the bill appears to have lost momentum at the state house, but could still be resurrected
