An amendment to the skateboard ordinance in downtown Warsaw was discussed and passed first reading at Tuesday’s city council meeting, but no changes were immediately made.

City Attorney Scott Reust said he overlooked the ordinance following recent complaints by business owners and resident, but it currently does not mention public parking lots in the downtown area. The amendment, if passed at the next city council meeting, would put more enforcement on skateboarding in those lots and allow Warsaw police officers to enforce those rules.

Fines for the first offense are $250, and go up in $250 increments for each additional offense before capping at $2,500. The downtown area is bound within the area of Lake, Detroit and Fort Wayne Streets and Winona Avenue.

The next city council meeting is on July 19th.
