City of Warsaw to buy gas station near Central Park

City of Warsaw Board of Works approved the purchase of an unoccupied gas station/convenience store at the corner of Canal and Detroit streets at its meeting Friday morning.

Assistant City Planner Justin Taylor told the board that the price of $152,500 was determined, as required by state statute, from the average of two appraisals.

The property was purchased “as is” and the building on the site will be torn down. The site will require some site cleanup work, such as the removal of fuel tanks, before anything else can be done with the plat.

Ideas for the property include adding a right-turn lane for southbound Detroit Street traffic into Central Park, but no definite plans have been established. Grants will be sought to pay for the site cleanup.
