Couple charged in fatal Elkhart hit-and-run turn selves in

Penelope and Leonard Grosswiler are in custody at Elkhart County Jail.

The two are accused of having a role in the deaths of three people during a fatal hit-and-run in late August.

Penelope Grosswiler is facing six charges, including three counts of leaving the scene of an accident causing death. Leonard is accused of trying to hide evidence and is facing over 2 years in prison. His wife faces over 21 years behind bars.

Both were listed as inmates at the Elkhart County Jail Wednesday afternoon after reportedly turning themselves in.

Penelope has a $100,000 bond and Leonard has a $10,000 bond.

Penelope is accused of hitting and killing 22-year-old Shawn Wolcott, 11-year-old Courtney Smith, and 8-month-old Dolly Smith with her vehicle as they walked near the intersection of East Beardsley Ave. and Cassopolis St. on Aug. 26.
