The main topic of discussion at Wednesday’s bi-weekly COVID press conference at Warsaw City Hall was the vaccine that has been widely anticipated as of late.

Kosciusko County Health Officer Dr. Bill Remington said the first phase, or Phase 1A, of the vaccine will go to those front line health care workers, those who have been exposed to the virus on a daily basis since the pandemic began. He believes the vaccine will be ready for those workers within the next ten days.

The vaccine will also be going to residents of long-term health care facilities, which Dr. Remington says is also part of the Phase 1A timeline. “100% of nursing homes in Indiana have selected that “national pharmacy partner” to pull that off. We’re going to need lots of partnering to pull this off (with mass vaccinations).”

After Phase 1A is 1B, which will go toward the vaccination of health departments, federally qualified health centers and community clinics. As far as getting the vaccination out to the general public, Remington said he is not sure of when that could come, but he took a guess at sometime next early spring.
