Deadline Extended For ‘Fire & Ice’ Sculptures

The deadline to purchase an ice sculpture for the Feb. 3 First Friday event has been extended to Wednesday, and there will be a free ice rink set up for the public.
The theme for February is “Fire & Ice.” First Friday is 5 to 9 p.m. downtown Warsaw.
“It’s going to be a fun, cold night,” event coordinator Paula Bowman said this morning.
The Farmer’s Almanac is predicting temperatures in the high 20s for February’s First Friday, she said.
The ice rink is a new feature that will be in the city hall parking lot, Bowman said.
Skating will be free, and those without skates can rent them for $3 for kids and $5 for adults.
Applications to purchase an ice sculpture can be found on the Warsaw Community Development Corp. website at wcdc.org or by contacting Bowman.
Cost is $250 for a 300-pound ice block and $350 for a 600-pound block.
The original deadline had been Jan. 20, but Bowman said that was extended to Wednesday.
The blocks will be set up at 9 a.m. on the day of the event, with carving starting at about noon, Bowman said.
There also will be hot chocolate, s’mores available and fire pits that will add to the atmosphere.
“It’s going to be the start of a really good year,” Bowman said. “It’s going to be cold so bundle up and come enjoy the sculptures.”
Upcoming themes for First Friday events include: March 3, Merchant Madness; April 7, Spring Break Escape; May 5, Musical May; June 2, Shriner Parade; July 7, Central Park Showcase, which will be at Center Lake Park and not downtown; Aug. 4, Baker Youth Club Car Show; Sept. 1, Serenity House; Oct. 6, Art-tober; Nov. 3, Thanks for Giving; and Dec. 1, Hometown Holly Days.
