Details Released On Friday’s Fatal Moped Crash Near Claypool

KCSD Press Release – Kosciusko County officials are currently investigating a vehicular traffic crash south of Claypool that has claimed the life of a Cromwell man Friday.

Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Deputies and emergency personnel responded Friday at 3:09 p.m. to the intersection of County Farm Road & County Road 800 South in regards to a reported vehicular crash.  Officers arrived and located the driver of a MDC (Motor Driven Cycle) in a near-by field, northeast of the intersection.  The Kosciusko County Coroner’s Office arrived and pronounced Anthony Wayne Gabbard, 25, Crowell, dead at the scene from blunt force trauma.

Kosciusko County F.A.C.T. team members stated that a preliminary investigation into the crash has determined that Gabbard had been traveling eastbound on County Road 800 South, when he failed to stop at the intersection.  Gabbard pulled directly into the path of a northbound Dodge Grand Caravan, driven by Sheldon L. Marles, 40, Warsaw.  After impact, Gabbard was thrown from his MDC, while his vehicle subsequently became lodged underneath the front of Marles’ van.  The gasoline tank of the MDC ignited after the collision, but was extinguished by fireman from Claypool and Warsaw/Wayne Township Fire Territory.  Marles was purportedly not injured in the crash.

Sheriff’s deputies stated that the crash is still currently under investigation.
