Those who want to get rid of old, unwanted prescription drugs will soon be able to do so year-round at many pharmacies throughout the state. The Yellow Jugs Old Drugs Program works together with local pharmacies and the Indiana Prescription Drug Abuse Task Force to provide secure drug disposal. Pharmacies across Indiana will receive letters this week inviting them to join the program, which was started by the Great Lakes Clean Water Organization in 2008. The organization says 71 percent of people misusing prescriptions obtain them from friends or relatives and about 78,000 children under 5 years of age are treated for poisoning in emergency rooms as a result of accidental poisoning in the U.S. each year.
