Elkhart County considering options for fixing troubled sewer systems

A lot of different options are being considered for improving the sewer situation in two townships in southwestern Elkhart County.

The Elkhart County Stormwater Board seeks to replace septic systems in Southwest and Foraker Townships. The Elkhart Truth says they landed on a solution that would cost approximately $4 million.

Board member Suzie Weirick is less than enthusiastic, saying she’s hesistant to spend that much on a system that will only last for 20 years. Board member Mike Yoder says he expects the system could last “forever” if it’s maintained correctly, and should cost no more than $1.5 million.

There is also still the matter of discovering who’s polluting the streams.
