Elkhart man arrested, charged with using explosive device, injuring officer at Fort Wayne protests

An Elkhart man who injured a state trooper during protests in Fort Wayne on Saturday, May 30th was arrested this past Saturday.

Indiana State Police say 43-year old Juan Pablo Gonzalez has been charged with possession and detonation of a destructive device to kill or intimidate, a level 2 felony, possession of a destructive device and battery with a deadly weapon, both level 5 felonies, battery against a public safety official, a level 6 felony, and two misdemeanors.

Police say Gonzalez used the device on officers on scene, seriously injuring one. Through an investigation, Gonzalez was arrested Saturday night during another protest. He was taken to the Allen County Jail.

The officer who was injured was treated and released later that night and has since been able to return to duty.
