Elkhart Police: Teen’s account of attempted abduction “not completely true”

Elkhart Police say a teenage girl’s recent account of an attempted abduction is not completely true.

It was Monday, April 9, when officers were sent to the 1000 block of West Garfield Avenue on the report of an attempted child abduction.

The 15-year-old girl said she was in the area of 6th Street and Dr. King Drive when the suspect grabbed her and forced her into the vehicle. She told police she fought with the suspect as they drove for a couple of block at which time she was able to get away.

Patrol officers and detectives investigated the incident and have determined the facts that were originally reported were not completely true.

They do believe the victim was concerned for her safety, but they do not believe there was  an attempted abduction.

No charges are being filed in the case.
