Fort Wayne drops Lutheran as health provider option for city employees

The City of Fort Wayne’s insurance plan has dropped one of the city’s two major healthcare providers.

Starting on January 1st, city employees will only have one choice for healthcare: Parkview Health, which will become the city’s “Exclusive Provider Organization,” according to the Journal Gazette.

The city had been giving employees the ability to choose between Parkview and Lutheran Health Network. Spokesman John Perlich says the move will save the city $4.5-million a year.

A Lutheran Health Network spokesman says they’re disappointed with the city’s decision and are already fielding calls from city employees unhappy with the move.

The new policy also stops covering prescriptions at Walgreens pharmacies and encourages employees to use GoodRx, a drug coupon app and website, instead.
