A Kosciusko County Highway Department worker received recognition on Tuesday for 50 years of service within the department.

Syracuse resident Larry Phillips was presented with a plaque by County Highway Superintendent Steve Moriarty at the County Commissioner’s meeting. Phillips began working with the department in January 1971, being a district patrolman for 29 of those years where he has been on call all around the clock with sometimes having to respond in the middle of the night.

Moriarty praised Phillips for his “countless hours maintaining the roads, making them safe for the community even during holidays and working long hours to keep families safe on the road.”
