An Illinois man was injured in a crash on US 31 Monday afternoon.
Indiana State Police say 40-year old Jaime Martinez of Summit was northbound on 31, near 13th road, when he slammed into the rear of a semi-truck that was stopped at a railroad crossing for a train. The investigation shows that Martinez was distracted when papers fell in his car.
Martinez suffered serious, but non-life threatening injuries, and was flown to Memorial Hospital in South Bend. The driver of the semi, 57-year old Renee Wise of Wakarusa, was not injured.
The crash closed both northbound lanes of 31 for roughly 90 minutes.
