Indiana Salt Supply Is Down

The cost of last winter continues to trickle in. INDOT says their salt supply is down, while the cost of replenishing that stockpile is up, about 57 percent on average from last year. And those costs are likely to rise as other states and groups rush to prepare for the winter. At last check, the state has about 142 thousand tons of salt in place. Snow plows spread about 437 thousand tons last year.  Cargill, the state's supplier, says their inventory is so low, they are shipping it in from South America.
