Indiana tax amnesty collections reach nearly $138 million, about $50 million more than the goal

Indiana’s tax amnesty program has collected nearly $50 million more than its original goal.

The Indiana Department of Revenue says individuals and businesses have paid nearly $138 million as of Monday to satisfy overdue state tax liabilities. The agency also has agreements for about $22 million in additional payments by next summer. The figures compare with the original goal of $90 million in collections.

Revenue Commissioner Andrew Kossack says nearly 65,000 taxpayers already have paid their past-due taxes in full, and more than 13,000 are participating via payment plans

The program is providing $84 million for the state’s Regional Cities grants and $6 million to support Amtrak’s Hoosier State line between Indianapolis and Chicago. Additional collections go into the state’s general fund.
