Both the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department and the Emergency Management Agency are looking to go after grants for new radios.

Chief Deputy Shane Bucher gave his grant proposal to the Kosciusko County Commissioner’s on Tuesday for $150,000. This will help with the purchase of mobile radios for merit deputies and roughly 30 mobile radios in police cruisers. The new radios will also be functional with the new changes coming in the county’s communications system, something that the old radios do not work with.

County EMA Director Ed Rock also applied for the same grant, but only for $22,000 for his department. Rock said the grant application was available to all response agencies in the county. The grant is a federal reimbursement grant from the Indiana Department of Homeland Security.

Both got approval from the commissioner’s to pursue the grants.
