Lawmaker to propose Central Time Zone bill in response to bus stop crash

A common debate in the Hoosier state: Should we be in the Eastern or Central Time Zone?

One state lawmaker says changing it could save children’s lives.

Republican Senator Eric Bassler says he will be filing legislation to make the change to the Central Time Zone after three siblings were killed at a bus stop in Rochester in October.

Twin 6-year-old boys and their older sister were hit by 24-year-old Alyssa Shepherd, who told police she did not recognize the school bus that was stopped with its safety arm extended.

Bassler believes kids will be more noticeable to drivers if they are waiting for the bus in daylight.

The Indy Star reports the bill is one of two that he plans to file related to school bus safety.
