WARSAW — A 21-year-old man accused of trying to pick up a student from Edgewood Middle School is facing kidnapping charges.
Marco Antonio Sanchez-Hernandez is accused of trying to pick up the person.
The attempt was quickly halted with several safeguards in place.
Officials quickly reacted.
“Due to the multiple layers of established school safety protocols, the individual was not able to gain access to students and most importantly, students were not in danger,” authorities said in a joint news release by Warsaw Police and school resource officers.
Officers questioned Sanchez-Hernandez and sought to file charges for attempted kidnapping and other related offenses, the news release said.
Additional charges are under active investigation, but police declined to further comment.
Police said they’re thankful for the strong partnership between Warsaw Community Schools, School Resource Officers, and local law enforcement.
