Military Banner Recognition Program Has Oct. 11 Deadline

The Warsaw Salutes You Military Banner Recognition Program was initiated by Warsaw Community High School 2021 graduate and Kosciusko Youth Leadership Academy member Elizabeth Stone as a way to honor and recognize active and former military service men and women from the greater Warsaw area.

Elizabeth was inspired to bring this project to the greater Warsaw area by her older brother, Lt. Nate Stone, former KYLA member and 2012 WCHS graduate, who is actively serving in the United States Navy, according to a provided news release.

To qualify, honorees must be a former or current resident of the greater Warsaw area and must be serving or have served in the United States Navy, Army, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard or National Guard. The banner will be 17 inches wide by 40 inches tall, made of a heavy vinyl, printed the same on both sides, will display the service person’s photograph, include their full name and branch of the military they are serving or served in. The addition of rank and era of service are optional additions to the banner.

The banner will be displayed on the Market Street corridor for Veterans Day 2022. Submissions and payments are due no later than Oct. 11. The Warsaw Salutes You Banner Recognition Program is not responsible for replacing banners that are stolen, damaged, or destroyed due to age, vandalism or any acts of nature. Once the banner is no longer displayed, it will be returned to the applicant.

The Warsaw Salutes You Military Banner Recognition Program provides the opportunity for the community to recognize and honor greater Warsaw area residents and their immediate family members who have served or are currently serving in the United States Armed Forces. The Military Recognition banner will be displayed from city-owned streetlight poles and will promote civic pride. In order to allow for a coordinated and consistent program, the Warsaw Banner Program has established the following policy and guidelines.

Guidelines include being an active, retired or honorably discharged member of the five United States Armed Forces service branches (Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marines and Navy) and a former or current resident of the greater Warsaw area.

A written application for placement of a banner must be completed on a form provided by the banner program. An application fee of $75 must be paid at the time of application. A high-resolution digital image (minimum 300 dpi) in jpeg format or 5×7 photograph of honoree in official uniform (with no objects). Original photos will be returned.

The city has designated the light poles on the 1400-2300 E. Market St. corridor as the initial location for this program. Available space is determined on a first-come, first-served basis among qualified applicants. All banner locations shall be determined solely by the city of Warsaw Street Department.

The banners will be displayed for a rotational period, at the discretion of the city.

At the end of the program, city of Warsaw staff will contact the applicant to offer them the banner; all banners that remain unclaimed after 60 days from removal will become the property of the city.

The Warsaw Salutes You banner application may be obtained by email or mail by contacting hi5stones@comcast.net. Applicants will be notified once an installation date has been determined. At the end of the banner display period, applicant will be contacted at the provided number/email and arrangements will be made for applicants to pick up the banner.

Based on the success of this cycle of the banner program, further action may be taken to continue the program in the community.
