A Pierceton man is in custody for allegedly breaking into the house of a deceased woman and taking her jewelry.

36-year-old Christopher Burnworth is facing burglary and theft charges in connection to a September break-in.

A woman whose mother had died says someone broke into the house between September 11 and September 20 by cutting the rear door screen and unlocking the door to get into an enclosed porch. Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Deputies believe a pry tool was then used to force the house door open.

Two people then report Burnworth trying to sell them jewelry. He gave the jewelry to one of the men, who turned it in to the Pierceton Town Marshal. It was then identified by the woman who had reported the burglary of her late mother’s home.
