WEST LAFAYETTE (Network Indiana) — A Purdue basketball player was arrested for driving drunk early Sunday morning.

Mason Gillis was pulled over just after midnight after someone noticed him driving “all over the road.” Officers say the Purdue sophomore from New Castle showed signs of impairment, and was booked into the Tippecanoe County Jail.

The Journal & Courier says Gillis was released Sunday night.

Head coach Matt Painter says they are aware of the incident and will handle it internally. The basketball program will not comment on the incident.

Gillis started 23 games for the Boilermakers as a redshirt freshman last season, and is among five starters returning for the 2021-22 season.
