Rail installation to cause downtown crossing closures in Warsaw

THE LATEST (WED 6/27):

Crossings at Center, Market, Main, and Winona are closed.

Fort Wayne, Lyon, and Arthur crossings are currently open, but are one-way only heading OUT of downtown Warsaw, so they cannot help people who are trying to commute IN to the city. These crossings are likely to close later today as the rail work heads north.

Both 300 and Ranch Road are expected to be open today.

The best bet for drivers is still to use the U.S. 30 overpass as these openings will be changing throughout the day.

The crossings that are open will be very bumpy because they do not yet have a finishing top coat on them, so drivers are asked to take it slow and use caution.

ORIGINAL STORY:

Norfolk Southern expects their rail gang to install new rail from Pope Street through Arthur Street on Tuesday, June 26. Crossings will be closed for six or more hours, and all of these downtown crossings may be closed at one time. An exact closure time is unknown and will depend on train traffic.

Hickory Street will be closed to traffic for approximately 2 weeks. Some crossings along Hickory Street may also be closed for an additional length of time, including Market, Main, and Center. Crossings will be opened, as feasible, but may initially just be temporarily patched.

Motorists are strongly encouraged to be patient, plan extra travel time, and use US 30 to cross town.
