Staff Report

FORT WAYNE — A group dedicated to honoring fallen soldiers and their families is planning a ‘Run to Remember’ from Fort Wayne to Indianapolis to honor Indiana Service Members who died in connection to the Global War on Terror.

Teams will run a relay-style race beginning at the War Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne on May 12, according to a news release from Honor & Remember and Honor & Sacrifice.

The 140-mile trek spans three days.

Organizers need runners, service organizations and volunteers to come out and say their names.

Gold Star family members are encouraged to attend their loved ones’ Hero Marker as the group pays tribute to each fallen hero since the bombing of the USS Cole in October 2000.

Donations –  large or small – are needed to help offset costs of lodging, meals, and transportation, and to contribute to the Honor & Remember organization that creates personalized Honor & Remember flags for any Gold Star family that requests one.

For those who can not attend, there will be a live video feed on our Facebook sites on the days of the run.

The war on terror is considered to have begun with the bombing of the USS Cole on October 12, 2000.
