The LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a sex offender on charges he failed to register. 36 year old Michael Sofranko was arrested at a home in the 500 East block of 11th Street, but that's not where he was suppose to be living. It was back in 1988 when Sofranko was convicted of child molesting, required to register and banned from living within 1,000 feet of a school, youth program center or a public park. Late last month, Sofranko moved and failed to complete his annual registration with the Sheriff's Office. He was discovered at his new home this week he was charged with a Level 5 Felony, due to a previous conviction for the same offense last year. When they found him, they say he was living next door to a day care facility so he faces a Level 6 Felony for that, as well.
