SILVER LAKE – A home is a complete loss after a midnight fire ravaged it Saturday then rekindled on Sunday, finishing the property off.

Silver Lake firefighters responded to 5138 W. CR 1300S, Silver Lake, at 11:50 p.m. Saturday and called for a full assist from Burket Fire Department and tankers from Claypool and Henry Township.

Silver Lake Fire Chief John Conley said the home is owned by Linda Smith and was unoccupied at the time. No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is undetermined, Conley said.

It took crews “30 to 45 minutes to get it under control,” Conley said, adding, “but maybe even longer.”

At 10:26 a.m. Sunday, Silver Lake Fire Department responded to a report of a rekindle at the property and requested Burket Fire Department’s tanker.

“The unburnt part of the roof is now gone,” Conley said. “I’ve never had one rekindle that bad.”

He said crews battled the rekindle for about an hour and a half.

The initial fire, and the rekindle, are both under investigation.
