Silver Lake home hit by fire again

Firefighters battled a blaze early Friday morning at the same residence where a fire broke out in October 2016.

Silver Lake Fire Department Chief John Conley said the call came in about 3:25 a.m. today for a house fire at 401 N. Jefferson St., Silver Lake.

The property was still being worked on so was unoccupied, Conley said. It is owned by Ron Phillips.

According to Oct. 17, 2016, information in the Times-Union, the fire last year was caused by a cellphone. Damage was estimated at $40,000.

“We stopped investigating it when we discovered a Galaxy phone last year because of the litigation,” Conley said this morning. He said that fire was classified as accidental.

The state fire marshal was called in to investigate this morning’s fire, he said.

The home is a total loss.

Heat from today’s fire caused siding damage to one neighboring home, and the heat broke a window in another house.

No injuries were reported.

Firemen were on scene for about three hours, Conley said. Assisting Silver Lake were Claypool and Burket fire departments and Parkview EMS. About 25 personnel were at the scene.
