South Bend father accused of assaulting special needs child

A South Bend man is accused of beating a child he was picking up from school.

Police were called to Harrison Primary School on reports of a parent assaulting a child. Jonathan Youngquist was called to pick up a 9-year-old special needs student who had damaged a wooden bench.

Upon arrival, a witness told police that Youngquist kicked the child from behind into the front doors of the building, dragged the child by the arm, and threw him into the vehicle. Another witness claims he then hit the child in the face. Police also allegedly found a spoon with a powdery residue on it while he was in the car.

ABC 57 reports that Youngquist asked “What…for kicking him in the butt?” when he was being arrested.
