South Bend Police continue search for driver in fatal hit-and-run

The woman who left the scene of a crash in South Bend that claimed the life of a 6-year-old girl has been identified.

South Bend Police are still searching for 26-year-old Reka Phillips. St. Joseph County Prosecutor Ken Cotter says Phillips wasn’t responsible for the collision, but had Phillips stayed to help and talk to police, she likely would not have been in any trouble.

Because she left, she is facing a level 5 felony with bond set at $20,000.

Officers say a grandmother was driving with her two grandkids in an SUV when the crash happened. 6-year-old Maliyah Davis died at the scene.

Phillips was photographed checking out the crash afterwards before she took off. Police do believe that the Chrysler 300 she was driving had the right-of-way before the crash happened.

Police are actively searching for Reka Phillips. If you’ve seen her, contact police immediately.
