State Looking For New Sources Of Funding For Roads & Bridges

As gas prices fall, the state is looking for new sources of funding for roads and bridges, since much of that funding right now comes from taxes on gasoline. Will Wingfield, with INDOT says revenue from those taxes had already been dropping even before the recent drop in gas prices, since many people had switched to more fuel efficient vehicles when prices were high. He says the agency will not ask for new taxes, though he says it needs about a 50 percent increase in revnue to just maintain roads and bridges.  He says INDOT will wait for the results of a pair of road funding studies.
