State Official Says Local Facebook Page Misquoted Him

Indiana’s Public Access Counselor says a social media site focused on Warsaw was not truthful in a recent post about a dispute between the City of Warsaw and a former city councilman. Luke Britt told the Times Union last week that the post claimed Mayor Joe Thallemer had been reprimanded for not releasing a draft version of a plan for a rate structure for sewer bills to pay for reconstruction of the sewage treatment plant. According to the report, Britt had been notified by former councilman and mayoral candidate Kyle Babcock that Thallemer had not released the plan and requested a ruling on whether that violated state open door laws. Thallemer said the plan was still in its early stages and could possibly change. According to the Times Union, the Facebook page called Warsaw Community claimed that Thallemer had been chastised for not releasing that report, which Britt says is not true. Britt says he doesn’t have the power to issue sanctions or reprimands. The operator of that Facebook page does not identify themselves.
