WINONA LAKE — Miller Sunset Pavilion will have a double header of activities on Valentine’s Day weekend.
It’s all part of the town council’s effort to boost ice skating activities and generate more traffic at the pavilion during the winter.
On Friday, Feb. 13, the pavilion will host a Galentines Day celebration, perfect for friends who love the music of pop icon Taylor Swift.
‘Skating Through the Eras’ will feature the music of Swift with the help of DJ Jellyman from 5–9 p.m.
Brittany Denney, who is in her first year of overseeing the skate rink, credits Ashley McGinnis, a town council member who is part of the MSP governing board, with the Taylor Swift idea.
“I expect a really big turnout on that day – it’s going to be fun,” Dennney said.
Admission is $9 for adults and $7 for juniors, plus a $5 skate rental.
On Saturday, Feb. 14, the pavilion will host the winter season’s final Winter Market and an ice skating promotion coinciding with Valentine’s Day.
The Farmers Market will run from noon to 3 p.m.
Skate admission will feature a buy-one, get one 50% off discount from noon to 9 pm.
The new promotions are part of a concerted effort to increase winter traffic in hopes of paying down the existing construction bond on the facility.
Denney thinks they’ve made strides.
“It was really busy in November and December. I feel like January, considering our heavy winter that we’ve had, it’s been really good,” Denney said.
The rink will also be open on Monday, Feb. 16, for Presidents’ Day.
The ice skate season concludes at the end of February.
